Take the Stage

RSA End Ageism Brief

This is my idea for the End Ageism campaign from the RSA Moving Image Brief. It’s an animation about how negative stereotypes for the elderly are out-dated and can be overcome. This is done in the context of a Stage or Theatre production in which a character encounters these stereotypes and beats them.

The transcript provided by the RSA argues that in children’s stories, the elderly are rarely given roles more than a “passive granny” or an “old crone”; this is how the idea of having the animation be based on some kind of stage performance came to be. Ageism in Acting is a contemporary issue, with older actors being overlooked for productions in favour of fresh faces. With the elderly character as the protagonist, it should also prove that being old doesn’t have to prevent you from being the star of the show.

It’s time to act against ageism.
